People are often surprised at the amount of research which has been done on Healing. Various studies over the past few decades, have built a substantial body of evidence. Below is a small selection of books, articles and studies, evidencing the effects of Healing, and vividly illustrating the Mind-Body-Spirit interconnection.
Sandy Edwards’ “Healing in Hospitals and Clinics” (2021), compiles the research Edwards conducted alongside Birmingham University on the effects of Healing on IBS Outpatients. In it she clearly and easily details her findings. She shows us how healing can have a positive effect on patients and their outlook on life. Sandy Edwards is a Fellow of The Healing Trust and all the Healers used in the study were members of The Healing Trust.
Bruce Lipton, “The Biology of Belief” 2005 – Lipton’s book looks at epigenetics and how powerful the mind -body connection really is. He shows us how much our thoughts, emotions and beliefs can affect our physical health for better or worse depending on our thoughts.

Biofeedback is the science of listening to the body, understanding its messages and using the mind to control it. In this study Lutgendorf found the women who were getting relaxation or usual care showed the normal decline that you would usually find with a woman who was going to chemo-radiation for this particular type of cancer. However, women in the Healing Touch group were able to maintain their natural killer cell cytotoxicity. There was no decline. She also found significant decreases in depression for the Healing Touch group. Those declines in depression were not found for the relaxation or usual care groups.
