Putting Yourselves Out There

The Healing Trust at Dartington, Devon is the only Healing Trust Healing Centre in Region 3, and was started by Catherine Tyler last year.

Situated in of one of the most ‘alternative’ towns in the UK we were still struggling to get people through the door, even with locally distributed posters and Facebook posts on local pages. Here’s how meeting people face to face changed everything!

We first met Tim when he came to our Healing Centre. He regularly organised Holistic Fairs in the Civic Hall in the centre of Totnes and wondered if we’d like to take part in one.

At first, the prospect of hiring a 2m x 2m space for a day seemed limiting. But we desperately needed to do something, so I booked a space plus a table and five chairs for Sunday 1st March and Lee Delbaere and Gillie Brock volunteered to help, taking half a day each.

I gathered brochures, handouts, client healing forms on clipboards, pens, donations box with float, card reader and made a list of extra things we’d need like name badges, a banner, water, hand gel, wipes and nibbles to keep us going.

Gillie visited the Holistic Fair the day before we were due to go to do a recce. She noticed everyone had tablecloths and flowers. I added them to the list!

Lee who was doing the first half of the day brought large bottles of water and drinking cups for the clients.

We arrived 45 minutes early to set up and get into the zone. The day flew past! We had a constant stream of clients wanting healing, interested in the Healer Training and asking about our centre. Tim was an excellent organiser, he made sure that it was quiet around our stall for healing and was super helpful. It all went very smoothly and was great fun to take part in.

Three days later, people were queuing to come into our centre! We’ve now introduced a joint guided meditation, which is proving very popular, followed by bookable healing slots.

For an outlay of £50 we not only recovered that in donations on the day, but have increased our client base and our monthly takings.

I recently setup an Eventbrite Account which will help to draw in even more clients. It only took 30 minutes, is free and they email you when you get a booking.

We are a little short of healers now, but are looking forward to welcoming more students this year. The future is bright, it’s just a question of putting yourselves out there!
